What does “private charter” actually get you?
A private charter is a whole-boat buyout. Instead of joining a shared day-tour seat next to strangers, you book the entire vessel — speedboat, motorboat, or phinisi — for your own group of couples, family, or friends. The charterer sets the pace, the swim stops, and the departure time.
Most private packages carry up to about 15 guests per vessel and bundle fuel, crew, meals, drinking water, and snorkeling gear into the boat price. What sits outside that price is always the same short list: Komodo National Park entry, ranger fees, and any sunset-island fee. Those are per person and paid in cash — more on that below.
Because it’s your boat, routing is flexible. Standard stops reachable from Labuan Bajo include Padar Island for the sunrise viewpoint trek, Komodo Island and Rinca Island for the dragons, Pink Beach, Taka Makassar’s sandbank, Manta Point for snorkeling with manta rays, plus Kanawa, Kelor, Gili Lawa, and Kalong Island for the flying-fox sunset. What park fees are added on top?
Park-related charges are billed separately from the boat and paid in cash, in IDR — no credit cards at the ranger post. They vary by island, activity, day of week, and operator, so treat these as current examples, not fixed decrees.

Numbers differ by operator: Green Rinjani excludes an entrance fee of IDR 650,000 per person on its 3D2N, while Viator excludes IDR 500,000 per person plus the ranger fees above. Diving costs more, and weekends cost more than weekdays. Bring enough cash — no card machines exist on the water. We have not seen an official fee decree number published, so we don’t quote regulation numbers we can’t verify.
When should you go?
High season runs May to September: sunny, warm, calm seas, and the best conditions for Padar and Manta Point — but also peak crowds and peak prices. Low season, October to April, brings more rain and rougher water yet lower rates and far fewer boats around each viewpoint. A private charter softens the crowd problem in either window, since you set your own timing and can hit Padar before the shared fleet arrives.
