Most price pages quote you the boat and stop there. What actually makes up the cost?
A private Komodo trip has two separate buckets. Confusing them is why buyers get surprised at the jetty.
Bucket 1 — the boat (per boat, billed once). You buy the whole vessel for your group only, no strangers. Fees vary by island and activity — diving costs more, weekends cost more than weekdays.
How much does a private day trip really cost a couple?
Here is a worked example for two people on a private one-day speedboat, using the small-boat rate and current fee schedule. The boat comfortably fits your party of two with room to spare.

That works out to roughly IDR 4.43 million per person for a fully private day, a private boat you don’t share with anyone. For comparison, Viator’s “1 Day Komodo Trip by Private Speedboat” is sold per group of up to four from about USD 990.36, and its listing separately excludes a park entrance fee of IDR 500,000 per person plus ranger fees for Padar and Komodo of IDR 360,000 per booking. One traveler on Viator reported booking a local private fast-boat for 8.8 million IDR (about USD 593) — almost exactly the couple total above, which is a useful reality check.
How much for a family or small group overnight?

Note the boat price barely moves as your group grows, so the per-person cost drops sharply the more of you there are.
Why is there such a wide price range online?
Because aggregators average very different vessels and seasons. Click&Boat data puts the average Komodo boat rental at about USD 1,023 per day, ranging from USD 154 to USD 2,478, with high season averaging about USD 2,462 per day and low season about USD 230. Motorboat charters start around USD 700 per day and sailboats run USD 400-3,800 per day, both for up to 15 guests.
Season is the single biggest swing. High season runs May to September — sunny, calm seas, peak crowds and peak prices. Low season, October to April, brings more rain and rougher water but lower rates and far fewer boats around Padar, Pink Beach and Manta Point.
